True Love Never Ends
Valentine's Day will be observed next week in the United States and many other countries. Stores are already decked out in pink and red, and hearts and teddy bears are in high demand. There are discounts on jewellery, as well as roses and chocolate. Valentine's Day is a day dedicated to love, or at least romantic love. The retailers and greeting card firms, on the other hand, are the ones who benefit the most from Valentine's Day..
I AM A ROMANTIC TOO…
I'm an incurable romantic in certain respects. I'm not a fan of realism in films; all I want is for everyone to live happily ever after. I want the good guys to be noble and respectable, and the evil guys to see their mistakes and turn around and become good guys. I'm easily moved to tears, particularly when it comes to pleasant things. I'm pleased that God created us to be able to experience romantic love, and I relish the realities of romantic love in a God-ordained partnership. On the other side, Valentine Day heavy emphasis on romantic love usually reminds me of how imperfect this type of love is.
BUT THERE IS A SMALL PROBLEM
The problem is that romantic love is mostly based on sensations and emotions, despite the fact that love is so much more. True love is unafraid of the absence of outer beauty, and it is not motivated solely by a need to feel good. The fullness of love delights in giving something wanted or required, rather than seeking to receive. True love is not conditional on receiving love in return. Instead, it is sacrificial and unselfish. The completeness of love is more of a manner of life lived toward one another than a sensation (though feelings do accompany such love). It is claimed that when it comes to the totality of love,
Love is patient and compassionate. It has no enmity, boasts nothing, and is not arrogant. It doesn't dishonour others, isn't self-centered, isn't easily enraged, and doesn't keep track of wrongdoings. Love is not enamoured with evil, but it is enamoured of the truth. It always safeguards, always believes in, always hopes for, and always perseveres. Love is unbreakable.
This love, we're taught, is divine. He loves us in this way, and He calls us to love others in the same way. This is not a typical or natural form of love. It is, in fact, supernatural. Romance is sweet and enjoyable, but the totality of love is what we yearn for and for which we were formed. It's a lot better than just romance. This love creates an environment in which romantic love can be given in its fullest form and experienced in its entirety. God is the source of true love, and true love will ultimately honour God. It's considerably superior to roses, chocolate, or even the most expensive jewellery. Give the card, send flowers, and share chocolates on Valentine's Day, but don't forget to give TRUE LOVE.
